The purpose of this job is to perform responsible advanced skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction of County facilities and equipment. This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform a broad range of skilled trades including carpentry, painting, masonry, metal work, tiling and related tasks.
- Participate in the maintenance and repair of buildings, structural components, doors, door frames, windows, floors, ceilings, walls, and roofs.
- Identify problems, determine solutions and/or repair needs and perform necessary work.
- Repair furniture and bleachers and install partitions, shelves, doors, windows, floors, ceilings and walls.
- Install sheetrock and paneling, plaster walls and finish concrete.
- Update buildings for new tenants.
- Assist with providing cost estimates for repairs, installations, maintenance and other trades as helper.
- Complete office moves and/or transport furniture to department offices.
- Order and transport materials and supplies.
- Install and repair rain gutters and roofs.
- Remove and haul trash, move furniture and equipment.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- General knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, tools, terminology and safety precautions of building maintenance trades.
- General knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
- Skilled in the operation of various tools and equipment used in the trade.
- Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain records.
- Ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs.
- Ability to rig scaffolds.
High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of experience in the repair, construction, or maintenance of equipment and/or facilities; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical DemandsPerforms medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)Involves routine and frequent exposure to the following:
- Bright/dim light
- Dusts and pollen
- Extreme heat and/or cold
- Wet or humid conditions
- Extreme noise levels
- Animals/wildlife
- Vibration
- Fumes and/or noxious odors
- Traffic
- Moving machinery
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Prefer a CDL class B Driver’s License.
