The primary purpose of the University Police Department is to protect the lives and property (real and personal) of all personnel and visitors who frequent the campus. This unit enforces all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as university rules and regulations. It patrols and secures the grounds of North Carolina Central University by responding to calls and/or complaints, performing preliminary investigations, recording and referring complaints, and completing and filing reports on all incidents.
PrimaryResponsibilities and Duties
- Function Knowledge – Technical:
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function, including patrol operations, community policing, investigative techniques for misdemeanors and less serious felonies, crime scene management, and use of equipment. - Function Communication (Presentations, Oral, and Written):
Present information to individuals or groups; deliver presentations tailored to the audience; convey information clearly in writing and verbally. - Function Organizational Awareness and Commitment:
Understand the organization s mission and how the work unit collaborates with others; discuss career development and suggest improvements in Department operations. - Function Problem Solving:
Identify problems, determine solutions, and resolve issues with minimal supervision; initiate, complete, and document problem-solving projects related to crime and quality of life concerns. - Function Analytical and Conceptual Thinking:
Identify issues, gather relevant information, compare data, and identify alternatives. - Function Other Duties as Assigned:
Perform additional duties as required.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of criminal and traffic laws; investigative techniques; standard law enforcement equipment;
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); ability to work independently; strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work in a high-pressure environment. - Minimum Education/
Experience:
Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and 6 years experience as a sworn local, state, or federal law…
