Precision Bio Sciences Summer Internship Program allows current students the opportunity to complete a combination of larger projects to solve a key problem and day to day tasks to better understand what a career in the given field entails. Interns will also participate in group learning and networking opportunities and enhance presentation skills through a capstone presentation at the end of the summer.
This position is a full-time internship, working 40 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks in the summer.
The Bioinformatics Intern will develop and optimize code to characterize gene editing outcomes and inform associated risk assessments. Responsibilities include benchmarking established software against in-house tools, designing validation tests, and providing data-driven recommendations. This role will work extensively with NGS data, including Nanopore long-read sequencing.

* Develop and document reproducible code and analysis pipelines for gene editing outcome characterization and risk assessment
* Assist in the analysis of various NGS assays, including Nanopore long

* Summarize results through clear visualizations and concise reports for cross-functional team communication
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
Required:
* Currently pursuing a Masters degree or PhD in bioinformatics, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, systems biology, biochemistry, computer science, statistics or related field
* Proficiency in one of the following programming languages:
Python, R, Bash
Preferred:
* Understanding of modern sequencing techniques, including long-read sequencing (i.e. Nanopore)
* Extensive experience with data analysis using R or python
* Experienced using git/github for version control
Travel Requirements
* No travel is expect for this position.
Location
* This is a primarily office-based position associated with the main headquarters in Durham, NC. For the time being, this role will be able to function remotely in part time capacity but is subject to change as needed.
