Position Overview

As an Animal Care Operations Expert, you will be instrumental in ensuring the health and proper care of all companion animals and aquatic life at the Pet Care Center (PCC). You will serve as a trusted resource for animal care while helping achieve our sales and inventory goals. Your main focus will be overseeing merchandising and inventory strategies related to our animals, collaborating closely with the sales team to meet our guests' needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Show a strong commitment to animal welfare and possess comprehensive knowledge of care practices for companion animals and aquatic life.
  • Ensure all animals receive proper care, including conducting health checks and completing incident reports.
  • Create a positive experience for guests through smooth register transactions.
  • Utilize our selling model to better engage with guests and fulfill their needs.
  • Maintain a welcoming shopping environment by effectively stocking, pricing, and displaying merchandise.
  • Participate in training programs to consistently develop your expertise and help educate fellow team members on animal care.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Adhere to established operational guidelines and safety procedures.
  • Act as a primary resource for guests and partners regarding animal education and care.
  • Manage inventory orders effectively with the sales team to maximize productivity.
  • Regularly maintain the animal habitats and aquatic areas to uphold a professional environment.
  • Ensure proper handling and documentation of relinquished and adopted animals.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts related to animal care.
  • Follow safety and loss prevention standards diligently.
  • Take on additional tasks as needed, with or without supervision.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should possess at least one year of experience caring for companion animals and aquatic life. A solid understanding of their care, combined with effective sales techniques and strong communication skills, is essential. A professional demeanor and a genuine interest in animal care are also required.

Certification

Successful completion of Petco's Animal Care Certification program is required for this role.

Education/Skills

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is needed, along with proficiency in math and basic accounting principles.

Supervisory Responsibility
  • Assist in operating the Pet Care Center in compliance with established procedures.
  • Promote safety protocols for partners, guests, and pets.
Work Environment

This role primarily takes place indoors, although some tasks may require outdoor activities, such as assisting guests or visiting veterinary clinics. The position demands physical activities like bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and prolonged standing, so following safety measures is crucial. Flexibility in scheduling availability, including evenings and weekends, is necessary.
