Occ Summary

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Work Performed

Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment. Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned. Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care.

Participate in professional development and performance improvement activities. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of scope of RN, LPN, and unlicensed staff
  • Application of the nursing process and professional theory
  • Assessment of nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and families
  • Ability to seek resources, collaborate, and establish effective relationships
  • Clear communication with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership
  • Teaching patients and families according to the nursing plan of care
  • Prioritization and sensory cognition for treatment and follow‑up
  • Fine motor skills
  • Competence in BLS and other specialized life support as required
  • Documentation of assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation, re‑evaluation
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn new software
  • Navigation of the entity to provide clinical care
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking; remain focused and organized
  • Knowledge of infection control, safety precautions, TJC and regulatory requirements
  • Pre‑employment physical capacity testing required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Registered nurse licensure in North Carolina (current or compact)
  • BSN program graduation required; prior RN hired 2014‑2021 encouraged to obtain BSN within 7 years
  • 12 months of appropriate clinical experience
  • BLS required
  • Ability to use computer and document using electronic systems
  • Physical capacity to meet job requirements
Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception applies as described above.

Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.

Certificates & Licences

Must have current RN licensure in North Carolina. BLS required.
