Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients
  • Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and supplies
  • Supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse
  • Delegate tasks and resources, prioritize work, and identify learning needs
  • Work in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures
  • Maintain documentation of nursing activities, assessments, care plans, interventions, evaluation, and patient status
  • Record and communicate pertinent patient information clearly and timely
  • Demonstrate ability to use computer systems and other documentation tools
  • Provide nursing services to patients and their families, staying focused and maintaining professional relationships
  • Remain compliant with regulatory requirements and participate in professional development
  • Support clinical activities and participate in performance improvement opportunities
  • Assist in educating patients and families and cooperating with team members
  • Demonstrate physical capacity to perform duties associated with nursing care
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and procedures as defined by the scope of practice
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
  • Ability to document and communicate plans of care and patient status
  • Ability to use computers and paper documentation tools as required
  • Ability to work under the established policies and procedures and to comply with regulatory requirements (e.g., JCAHO)
  • Ability to teach patients and families and to work collaboratively within the healthcare team
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and clear communication
Work Performed
  • Plan, provide performance improvement opportunities, and assist in improvement initiatives
  • Process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up care
  • Document professional nursing care and ensure infection control and safety precautions
  • Support the development and education of other staff
  • Perform related duties incidental to the work; participate in training and leadership activities as assigned
  • Assist in enabling timely completion of care components according to care plans
  • Explain and apply care plans to patients and families
