Position summary

This position is a dual role that will share time between the Abdominal Transplant unit and the Abdominal Transplant, Nephrology and Surgery Clinic. It is a 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week) role with two 12-hour shifts per week on the inpatient unit and two 8-hour shifts per week in the outpatient clinic. Both settings serve the same patient population and enable the RN to follow patients through the continuum of care.

Abdominal Transplant (6

DCT) Unit

The unit comprises 37 beds. Nursing staff provide care for complex patients, including Pre-Liver Transplant, Liver Transplant, Kidney Transplant, Pancreas Transplant, Small Bowel Transplant, and Hand Transplant patients.

Department Highlights

Clinic 2B/2C

The Abdominal Transplant, Nephrology and Surgery Clinic is a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic featuring Nephrology, Pain & Palliative Care, Liver/Intestine and Kidney/Pancreas Transplant services, Interventional Radiology/Vascular Radiology, General and Advanced GI Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Transplant Psychology, and Transplant Infectious Disease. Patients include those with liver, intestine, pancreas, and kidney disease, pre-transplant candidates, and those being evaluated for specialty surgeries.

  • Staffing includes RNs, LPNs, RMAs, and CMAs trained in specialty areas

  • Common treatments include specimen collection, vital signs, medication/allergy review, wound care, IV therapy

What you will do

  • Plan, provide and document professional nursing care using the nursing process, under physician orders and policies, and within NC Board of Nursing scope
  • Delegate tasks and supervise other licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Assist other healthcare personnel in patient care
  • Maintain environment of care, equipment and resources; prioritize work and identify available resources
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain required competencies
  • Support development of other staff and learners
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational improvement opportunities
