What you can do on KARE depends on your role as a caregiver or nurse. The following reflects the responsibilities our HR notes:
- Ensure the individual service plan is followed; administer or supervise treatments prescribed by physician
- Make meaningful rounds to residents using service plans; coordinate rounds with physicians and record visits on charts
- Administer injections; perform in-house testing; take and record vital signs
- Document acute episodes or significant changes in resident status
- Collaborate with Activity Director, DON, and Nurse Aides in the activities program
- Communicate with physicians and follow through with orders
- Prepare and administer prescribed medications; manage medication orders and refills
- Chart on shift in accordance with policy, state guidelines, and resident status
- Supervise serving of prescribed diets and fluid intake; report unresolved problems to physician, DON, or appropriate discipline
- Prepare incident reports timely and accurately; complete admission assessments and discharge documentation
- Supervise residents who self-administer medication following guidelines
- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and escort services as needed
- Provide emotional and social support; respect independence and dignity of residents; maintain confidentiality
- Be familiar with emergency equipment and procedures; promote a safe working environment
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of the community
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
- Requires an LVN (LPN) or RN license
- Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, infection control, universal precautions and OSHA standards
- Familiarity with in-service instruction of nursing and auxiliary personnel; patient-care techniques and resident needs
- Knowledge of medical diagnoses, procedures, treatment patterns, medication administration, and side effects
- Ability to lift at least 51 lbs and assist residents as needed
- Proficient in computer use and related tasks
- Read, write, speak, and understand English
- Experience with memory care residents if assigned to memory care areas may be required
