Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients. Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care as directed by the team leader or charge nurse. Delegate tasks and resources. Prioritize work organization and identify resources in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance.
Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies. Ability to record activities, document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status. Ability to use computer-based or paper documentation tools. Provide nursing services to patients and withstand prolonged standing and walking. Ability to remain focused and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate clearly and apply the nursing process appropriately.
Knowledge of professional theory, practice and procedure. Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families, and to document and communicate care plans. Ability to work with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians and administrators in accordance with regulatory requirements. May assist in teaching patients and families and in using new software programs. Demonstrate knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.
Support the development of other staff and collaborate with the team. Ability to teach patients and families and work with learners. Physical capacity to perform essential job functions as required by the work area.
Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception:
Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor s degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.
Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager s discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level. CNIs are eligible for promotion to CN II by meeting criteria set forth by the DUHS Vizient Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire. Promotions can occur at 12 months of hire, but no later than 18 months of hire.
Licensesand Certifications
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
