Duke University Health System seeks to hire a Registered Nurse (new or experienced) who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.
Unit 8100The adult medicine stepdown unit has 16 beds. Our team provides exemplary care for a variety of complex patients with diagnoses such as sepsis, sickle cell, GI bleed, end‑stage renal failure, diabetes, cirrhosis, and behavioral health disorders.

- Full time – 36 hours/week
- Three (3) 12-hour shifts
- Rotating Day / Night Shift
As a Clinical Nurse in Duke University Health System, you will plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures.
- Plan, provide and document professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse
- Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers
- Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care
- Prioritize work organization and identify resources to complete care in a timely manner
- Maintain required competencies, seek learning opportunities, and support other staff and formal learners
- Participate in clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement activities
- Document assessments, plans, interventions, and re‑evaluation for acute and chronically ill patients, collaborate with the team, and seek resources independently
- Educate patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care
- Manage relationships with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
- Paid Training
- New Graduate Nurses: 8 weeks of paid orientation, monthly residency classes, and a unit‑focused project
- Experienced Nurses: 4‑6 weeks of paid orientation, depending on level of experience

- Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program
- Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing (or compact RN licensure) and BLS Certification
- No experience required – all CNIs will complete the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire
- All RNs without a Bachelor’s degree must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within 2 years and complete within 7 years
