The Wound Management APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides leadership and direct patient care services for patients with a variety of wounds, including patients under plastic surgery as deemed appropriate. The APP performs physical exams, provides clinical expertise, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribes interventions and medications, and coordinates interdisciplinary care.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Collect and document data for research purposes
- Conduct and/or order diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations
- Work in the wound clinic, performing related tasks
- Prescribe appropriate interventions and medications and provide direct patient care services
- Provide leadership in the care of patients seen within the Wound Clinic
- Educate nurses to ensure knowledge and competency in basic wound and lower extremity management
- Collaborate with a supervising physician
- Punch biopsy
- Shave biopsy
- Compression wrap application
- Application of skin substitutes
- Debridement of nails & callous
- Suture placement
PA:
Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant program, Master’s or Doctoral Degree preferred.
NP:
Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner program for adult care.
PA: PA-C
NP: AGPCNP or AGACNP or ACNP or AGNP or FNP with WOC certification preferred
PA:
Current unrestricted medical license issued by the NCMB with approval to practice as PA
NP:
Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with approval to practice as an NP
Both:
Federal and State DEA with unrestricted prescriptive authority
PA:
Minimum 1‑year experience as a Physician Assistant preferred, but not required. Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
NP:
Minimum 1‑year experience as an NP or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Wound care experience is strongly preferred.
- Clearly articulate scope of practice within North Carolina guidelines
- Independently seek resources and collaborate to solve complex problems
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, staff, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others
- Use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform assessments, treatment, and follow‑up
- Use fine motor skills
- Record activities, document assessments and interventions; prepare reports and presentations
- Use computer and learn new software programs
- Provide leadership in the clinical area and meet organizational goals
- Navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide expertise to patient populations
- Withstand prolonged standing and walking; able to move or lift at least fifty pounds
- Remain focused and organized
- Work collaboratively with all levels of personnel
Primary hours will be Monday‑Friday, 8 hours a day, and other hours as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Durham as the nearest major market, Raleigh as the nearest secondary market.
