Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to provide direct patient care services in the Duke Department of Orthopaedics at Duke Orthopaedics Urgent Care locations
. The APP will function autonomously with physician support.
Duke urgent cares operate seven days a week with providers on a rotating schedule, including days off, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients requiring urgent orthopaedic care, as well as for subacute and chronic conditions. Evaluate post-operative patients with acute issues.
- Coordinate patient care, including triage, physical exams, data collection, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and scheduling laboratory and imaging studies.
- Formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, ensuring patient understanding and compliance.
- Educate learners rotating in the department and urgent care.
- Provide telephone support to primary care and urgent care clinics.
- Communicate all relevant patient information verbally and in writing to supervising physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers.
- Document all relevant data promptly in the electronic medical record.
- Respond to patient inquiries via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and consult with supervising physicians as needed.
- Analyze clinical practice patterns to improve care quality and efficiency.
- Refer patients to other services as needed to meet their care requirements.
Experience
- Minimum of 2+ years of general orthopaedic NP or PA experience.
- Comfort with autonomous clinical practice treating both adult and pediatric patients.
- Technical skills include injections, splinting, and casting.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners:
Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master’s degree in Nursing. - Physician Assistants:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program;
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
Certification
- BLS certification required.
License
- Nurse Practitioners:
Current or compact RN licensure and NP approval to practice in North Carolina; national certification as an NP required. - Physician Assistants:
Licensed in North Carolina and certified by the NCCPA.
- DEA license required.
Job Hours
Providers work on a rotating schedule, including days off, evenings, weekends, and holidays, at Duke urgent care locations open seven days a week.
