Registered Nurse (New Graduate) – Duke University Hospital – 9100 Surgical Unit – All Shifts Available

9100 Surgical Oncology at Duke University Hospital admits patients who have undergone surgery for a cancer diagnosis. We are a 31‑bed unit caring for intermediate and step‑down level patients. The bonds we build with our patients help foster a trusting environment so that we can appropriately educate and guide them through one of the most challenging times in their lives. We consider it an honor to be there for our patients, their loved ones, and each other when they need it the most.

We provide high‑quality care to four different services:

  • Gynecology Oncology
  • Urology
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Ear, Nose, and Throat
  • The 6300 Surgical Oncology unit is a fast‑paced environment constructed of an elite team of enthusiastic surgical oncology registered nurses and nursing care assistants.     Job Summary

    As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will care for the whole person in a patient‑centered atmosphere. The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities. The nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) is utilized to achieve the nursing department’s goals. Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model and participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, or other health‑related projects as assigned.

    Provide nursing services to patients and families under the scope of the R.N. as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Will adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal government rules and regulations and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

    Work Schedule

    3‑12 hour shifts – Day, Night, or Rotating Available

    Work Performed

    Clinical Nurses will plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients under physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessing the patient’s baseline needs and response to care. Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other nursing personnel in delivering nursing care and act as a team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.
