Department ProfileThe 7100 Cardiology Stepdown Unit at Duke University Hospital is comprised of 31 beds. It provides care for cardiology medicine patients with a range of diagnoses. The patient population includes but is not limited to the care of acute coronary syndrome, post cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures, dysrhythmias, heart failure, heart transplant workups, and congenital heart disease. These patients require high acuity care and many come directly from the ICU, post procedures or outside hospitals requiring an increased level of care.
The environment is fast paced, challenging and provides many opportunities for professional growth.
- Full Time: 7am-7pm/7pm-7am 12‑hour days and nights rotating shifts
- Straight shift option available after orientation for experienced nurses based on unit availability
As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a patient‑centered atmosphere. The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) for achieving the goals of the nursing department. Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients guided by DUHS Professional Practice model.
Participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects or other health related projects as assigned. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Adheres to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

- Plan, provide and document professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.
- Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
- Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care.
- Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and material resources. Prioritize work organization and identify resources available to assist in completing components of care in a timely manner.
- Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
