Job Summary

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Duke Neurological Sleep Clinic
, serving both Durham and Raleigh/Cary, North Carolina
, with a focus on insomnia care. In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with attending physicians to provide specialized care for patients with insomnia and related sleep disorders.
  • Deliver Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) and pharmacologic management for insomnia.
  • Collect and document patient data accurately.
  • Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations.
  • Provide direct patient care services to individuals with insomnia and other sleep disorders.

The primary hours for this position are Monday through Friday, during the day shift, with flexibility to meet the needs of our patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record. Write progress notes, prepare patient workups and summaries, noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, especially those struggling with chronic insomnia.
  • Insomnia‑Specific Care: Administer and interpret validated sleep assessment tools. Develop and implement individualized CBTi treatment plans. Prescribe and manage medications used to treat insomnia, while monitoring efficacy and side effects.
  • Diagnostic Procedures: Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Patient Monitoring: Monitor patient progress, report to the supervising physician, and maintain records of each patient's progress. Consult with the supervising physician when a patient's progress does not meet anticipated criteria.
  • Therapeutic Procedures: Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing sleep disorders and prescribing necessary treatments. Record normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.
  • Teaching: Participate in teaching students and residents techniques and procedures unique to insomnia management and behavioral sleep medicine.
  • Clinical Trials: Participate in clinical trial subject recruitment, enrollment, and study, particularly those related to insomnia treatment.

Job Eligibility Requirements Education
  • Nurse Practitioners:
    Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants:
    Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required;
    Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification
  • Certification or formal training in CBTi preferred.
  • BLS required.
License
