We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Critical Care Float Pool. This team supports various critical care units across Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, and Duke Raleigh. The role requires clinical expertise, teamwork, accountability, and an appreciation for family‑centered care.
Responsibilities- Embeds in the workforce to “rise to challenges and adapt to situations.”
- Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care according to physician orders and established policies.
- Delegate tasks and supervise other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
- Assist other nursing personnel in delivering care.
- Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and resources.
- Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies and pursuing educational opportunities.
- Complete a one‑year Nurse Residency Program.
- Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and learners.
- Identify and participate in clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities.
- Adhere to all rules and regulations of local, state, federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the described work.
- Multitask and document assessments, plans of care, interventions, and patient status evaluations; assess nursing needs; seek resources; collaborate; educate patients and families; manage relationships across the healthcare team.
- Float Pool RN Premium of $5.00 per hour.

Full‑time, benefit‑eligible RN positions (≥36 hrs./week) are eligible. Duke will reimburse up to $25,000 of nursing school debt over three years for eligible RNs employed in a full‑time 0.9 FTE (36+ hrs/week).- Loan forgiveness reimburses up to $25,000 over three years.

- Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
- Minimum of 100 hours of clinical experience in a critical‑care setting during nursing school.
All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
Licensure and Certification Required- Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina.
