• Provide individualized nursing care to surgical patients, demonstrating extensive knowledge to support various conditions and injuries. The RN controls the environment within the surgical suite and is responsible for developing and coordinating a safe plan of care using standards of practice.
• Apply age‑specific standards, policies, and procedures for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including medication administration, anesthesia care, and routine unit procedures.
• Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care, collaborating with patients and families in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills, prioritizing tasks to maintain patient safety amid interruptions.
• Document patient care in the patient record according to established nursing standards.
• Participate in and promote the Universal Protocol and time‑out procedure for every procedure.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team—including surgeons, physician assistants, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, radiology, and other OR team members—to plan care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Advocate for patients, assess needs throughout the peri‑operative experience, adjust the plan of care as needed, and communicate updates to the team.
• Participate in performance‑improvement activities, including data collection and analysis to identify quality metrics and support patient‑care delivery systems, policies, and problem‑solving teams.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
  Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or a compact multi‑state license.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire.
• ACLS & PALS certification preferred; must obtain both within 6 months of hire if not currently active.
• CNOR certification strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with instruments and equipment related to peri‑operative nursing.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity in handling instruments.
