Job Summary

The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians, collects and documents data, obtains/orders diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services. This position will split time between our two services 50/50.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
  • Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post‑treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
  • Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high‑level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
  • Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records.
  • Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
  • Communication among multi‑disciplinary teams to support patient care.
  • Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back‑up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
  • Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
  • Perform procedures including:
    • Bone Marrow Biopsies
    • Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
    • Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
    • Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
  • See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
  • Attend program required meetings.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
  • Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
  • Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

NP:
Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care.

PA:
Graduate of ARC accredited Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program.

Certification

NP:
Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGPCNP, AGACNP, etc.).

PA: PA‑C.

Both: BLS. ACLS preferred.

Licensure

NP:
Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NP.

PA:
Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA.

Both:
Federal and State DEA independent license with unrestricted prescriptive authority.

Experience

APP experience is preferred, ideally in Hematology/Oncology, but recent or new grads graduating by December 2025 are welcome to apply.
