Role Overview

The Director of Family Engagement is a senior operations leader responsible for designing, managing, and continuously improving the end-to-end family experience across KIPP North Carolina schools. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role ensures that families experience KIPP NC as accessible, responsive, and trustworthy—from first contact through re-enrollment and ongoing partnership.

This leader oversees school-based Enrollment Managers and related family-facing systems, translating enrollment strategy into consistent, high-quality execution while expanding the focus to retention, attendance partnership, and family satisfaction. The Director of Family Engagement serves as the operational owner of how families experience KIPP NC and how those experiences drive enrollment stability, ADA, and long-term student success.

Key Performance Indicators
  • Enrollment Performance: 100% of assigned schools meet or exceed enrollment targets by established deadlines
  • Enrollment Yield & Stability:
    Strong offer-to-enrollment yield and year-over-year improvement in midyear enrollment stability (reduced withdrawals)
  • Enrollment Manager Performance & Retention:
    Enrollment Managers meet performance expectations and are retained at a rate of 90%
  • Enrollment Data Quality & Timeliness:
    Enrollment data is accurate (99%) and submitted on time (100%) across all campuses
Key Responsibilities Family Engagement Strategy & Execution
  • Own and lead the statewide family engagement operating model, ensuring consistent, equitable, and culturally responsive practices across schools.
  • Translate enrollment and retention strategy into clear workflows, expectations, and accountability at the school level.
  • Ensure seamless family experience across the full lifecycle: recruitment, enrollment, onboarding, attendance partnership, and re-enrollment.
People Leadership & Management
  • Directly manage and coach Enrollment Managers and other family-facing operational roles.
  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular coaching, evaluations, and development planning.
  • Build bench strength and succession pathways for enrollment and family engagement leaders.
  • Address performance gaps with urgency and clarity in partnership with Operation and Academic school leaders.
Enrollment, Retention & Attendance Partnership
  • Ensure schools meet enrollment targets through disciplined execution and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Partner with operations and academic leaders to reduce midyear withdrawals and support attendance improvement.
  • Use family engagement data to identify patterns impacting ADA and chronic absenteeism.
  • Serve as a key collaborator with Transportation, School Operations, and Student Support teams to remove barriers for families.
Data Integrity, Systems & Reporting
  • Ensure enrollment and family engagement data is accurate, timely, and consistently maintained across systems.
  • Own weekly and monthly reporting for enrollment, retention, and family experience metrics.
  • Prepare executive-level summaries for the COO, SLT, and Board of Directors.
  • Ensure fidelity in withdrawal coding, documentation, and compliance requirements.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partner closely with the Director of Enrollment Strategy to ensure alignment between strategy and execution.
  • Collaborate with Regional Directors of Operations and School Leaders to drive consistent family-facing practices.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the COO on family experience risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
Requirements Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in enrollment, family engagement, operations, or student services.
  • 3+ years of people management experience, including managing managers.
  • Strong systems thinking, data analysis, and execution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through remember accountability and cross-functional influence.
  • Deep commitment to educational equity and family partnership.
Preferred
  • Experience in K–12 education or charter school enrollment.
  • Familiarity with SIS and enrollment platforms (e.g., Infinite Campus).
