Position Overview

Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (AoVC) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and provides strategic leadership for the Student Affairs Administration and Resources unit. The role offers operational, administrative leadership for units such as Marketing and Communications, Grant Development and Management, Technology Support, and Residential Life; advances strategic planning initiatives; ensures alignment of student engagement and leadership development with institutional priorities;

acts as Chair of the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC); provides oversight of budgets, recruitment, professional development; and represents the Division in the Vice Chancellor’s absence.

Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, and oversight of complex student affairs units, focusing on student success, engagement, and leadership development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of student affairs programs, policies, compliance within higher education.
  • Strong project management, organizational, problem‑solving skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to build collaborative relationships and represent the Division effectively.
Minimum Education /Experience
  • Doctorate from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Educational Policy and Leadership Studies or closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, with demonstrated leadership experience in student affairs, including supervision of staff, operational management, grant writing, and strategic planning at departmental, divisional or campus level.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  • Executive leadership and vision for Student Affairs Administration and Resources; supervise directors; mentor staff; represent Division on behalf of Vice Chancellor; chair SAFAC; foster a collaborative, student‑centered culture.
  • Coordinate divisional priorities; organize workflows across multiple units; manage calendars and timelines for major initiatives; support committee structures; align resources, personnel and processes.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of assigned units; manage budgets and fiscal resources; ensure policy compliance; address operational challenges; support Residential Life operations; maintain continuity in Vice Chancellor’s absence.
  • Lead and advance divisional strategic planning initiatives; integrate student engagement and leadership development into long‑term goals; support data‑informed decision‑making; align divisional strategies with institutional priorities; drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
