We're seeking a hands-on Maintenance Foreman to supervise and actively participate in the upkeep and repair of our Hospital and Medical Center off-site buildings, systems, and equipment.
Work Arrangement – On-site
Anticipated Pay Range - Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $28.88 to USD $45.83. DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES
Experience/training in a healthcare environment is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience – Six (6) to eight (8) years of experience required either in a specific field or in general building maintenance and repair; supervisory skills and experience required.
Certificate, License, Registrations - Valid N.C. driver’s license and a driving history acceptable under the guidelines of the Safe Driving Policy required; license or certification in a related trade will be required if assignment is to a specific discipline where license is available, such as electrical or plumbing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (include the following; other duties may be assigned.)
- Supervise and participate in maintenance and repair activities within assigned areas of the Hospital and Medical Center; may be responsible for multiple trades, such as electrical, electronics, communications, plumbing, carpentry, or general maintenance.
- Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space, equipment and supplies for adequate performance of duties.
- Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program within assigned area of responsibility.
- Conduct periodic inspections of buildings and facilities to determine repair needs; establish and maintain liaison with customers within assigned areas regarding maintenance requirements to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local codes; direct and follow-up any required rework or modifications.
- Ensure that employees are properly trained to perform duties; ensure a safe work environment; ensure compliance with Medical Center and JCAHO safety regulations.
- Advise management of general condition of facilities and equipment and any unusual problems or concerns that may arise; make recommendations for improvements or upgrades of facilities for budget planning.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of maintenance and repair records to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
- Supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, scheduling, and training.
- Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations.
