Job Summary

The Data Analyst at Candle Science plays a key role in supporting day-to-day data operations and enabling reliable, actionable reporting across the organization. This position supports Operations, Product Development, Marketing, Finance, and Leadership by maintaining data pipelines, improving reporting accuracy, and delivering timely insights that inform business decisions. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Data Analytics, this role is responsible for executing and maintaining core analytics workflows, ensuring data integrity, and fulfilling cross-functional reporting needs.

The position requires a strong balance of technical execution, analytical problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration, contributing to Candle Science's overall goals by strengthening operational visibility, improving efficiency, and supporting data-informed growth.

• Generates recurring business reporting, KPI dashboards, and operational analytics workflows
• Maintains and improves SQL-based data models and transformations to ensure reliable reporting
• Manages analytics requests, reporting tools, and dashboard deliverables across departments
• Maintains data pipelines and integrations from multiple business systems into centralized data warehouses
• Facilitates meetings with stakeholders to gather, document and translate business needs into functional / technical requirements
• Audits queries and models to improve performance, reduce cost, and enhance efficiency
• Designs and implements data validation checks and tests to ensure accuracy of critical datasets
• Creates and maintains dashboards, views, and reporting tools for business stakeholders
• Prioritizes projects, communicates updates to stakeholders, and ensures timelines are met
• Conducts operational analysis, performance evaluations, and forecasting support to inform decision-making
• Advises stakeholders on data capture standards, reporting requirements, and structural improvements
• Collaborates cross-functionally with Operations, Marketing, Finance, Product Development and Technology teams
• Assists with data preparation for forecasting models and advanced analytics initiatives
• Monitors industry trends and integrates feedback to maintain reporting relevance and effectiveness
• Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, or related field and/or 2-5 years of relevant experience
• Strong SQL proficiency (2-4+ years writing SQL as a primary responsibility)
• Experience working with relational databases such as Google Big Query or PostgreSQL
• Familiarity with data transformation tools (e.g., dbt) and data integration tools (e.g., Fivetran or similar platforms)
• Experience building dashboards and reporting in BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
• Proven ability to manage multiple reporting priorities and stakeholder requests in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines
• Familiarity with forecasting, statistical modeling, or operational performance analysis preferred
• Experience in e-commerce, retail, manufacturing, or supply chain environments preferred

This role is based in Durham, NC and may be offered in a hybrid format, depending on business needs and budget considerations. Team members may be required to work onsite (number of days, if applicable).

The position requires significant time spent (desk work, computer use, meetings, etc.), along with regular collaboration through meetings, video calls, and occasional in‑person sessions. The role may require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing or using a ladder as needed.

The Hiring Salary Range is $90,000 - $99,000.
