This position is eligible for a $6,000 sign-on bonus.

School health nurses provide important preventive health services to help students achieve physical and mental health and reach their academic potential.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing direct care and case management components;
• Teaching students, staff, and families about health issues and procedures;
• Evaluating students with health concerns, managing care, and making referrals;
• Developing care plans for students with chronic or severe medical conditions, including medication administration;
• Collaborating with school district staff to enhance student health services;
• Providing nursing services in clinics and community programs as needed;
• Performing additional tasks as assigned.

• Ability to work independently and exercise sound nursing judgment;
• Accurate record-keeping and interpreting medical records;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
• Knowledge of nursing practices, public health principles, and available resources;
• Ability to coordinate and oversee work, work tactfully, and exercise good judgment;
• Effective partnership skills with patients and providers;
• Computer proficiency for documentation and communication.

Graduation from an accredited nursing school and at least one year of professional nursing experience.

• Registered Nurse license in North Carolina;
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
