This position is a full time one-year appointment for a Postdoctoral Psychology Resident to provide a wide range of clinical and outreach services to Duke students in a fast‑paced, high‑demand university environment. This role requires enthusiasm to work with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, a commitment to holistic student well‑being, and an openness to innovative mental health service delivery models. Under the guidance of the Director and the CAPS Site Training Director, the Postdoctoral Psychology Resident will provide individual and group counseling services, intake assessments, crisis interventions, emergency on‑call services, case management activities, outreach, and related counseling center administration.
Clinical supervision for licensure will be provided by a licensed psychologist стратегии at CAPS علیه. The Resident will work with the CAPS Site Training Director to collaboratively identify an area of focus for the postdoctoral training year based on their areas of interest. The Resident will be expected to contribute to service development, quality improvement, and/or outreach programming associated with their focus area.
The Resident’s work will be guided by a commitment to serve the Duke University students by providing timely and culturally responsive clinical services to a diverse student body. Successful candidates would be experienced in providing brief, time‑limited therapy services, skilled in crisis management, and have a passion for promoting overall student wellbeing. The individual must be a strong generalist who can provide multimodal treatments and understands the unique developmental stages and mental health concerns of college aged student population.
Position Duties
Direct Services – 60%
- Conduct initial intakes, determine and recommend treatment plan, and provide ongoing therapy services. Provide single session therapy, as requested.
- Initiate and facilitate group therapy services that may include process, support, or skill‑based spaces.
- Provide triage, crisis care, and clinical consultation to Duke students presenting with acute distress. Assess, deescalate, support, and make appropriate treatment referrals.
- Develop and facilitate outreach and workshops on various mental health and wellness topics, placing priority on expanding service access for all students.
- Participate in campus‑wide prevention efforts.
- Under supervision from licensed psychologist, may provide supervision of doctoral psychology interns and/or master’s students and contribute to didactic seminars.
Administrative and Professional Duties – 35%
- Participate in a minimum of one hour per week of individual supervision with a licensed psychologist in accordance with state laws and policies governing the practice of psychology by postdoctoral psychology residents.
- Apply for licensure with the North Carolina Psychology Board within 30 days of beginning the practice of psychology at CAPS.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with state laws, ethical guidelines, andHOME per CAPS policies and procedures.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Record System to maintainৰা client records in accordance with HIPAA and FERPAавяз.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with internal and external colleagues.
- Consult with psychiatrists who provide medication management for psychotherapy clients to coordinate care.
