Hours
: 8am - 5pm Monday and Friday, 7am - 6pm Tuesday - Thursday
Duke Primary Care Riverview, located in Durham, provides comprehensive internal medicine and lab services with a team of 28 providers serving 240-300 patients daily. Specializing in internal medicine, cardiology, hospital follow-up care, and new patient access, the clinic offers annual exams, preventative care, chronic illness management, acute illness treatment, immunizations, and women's health services. Committed to personalized, patient-centered care, the clinic meets the diverse healthcare needs of its community.
- As a Patient Service Associate, coordinate and perform a variety of administrative tasks to support the daily operations of the clinic, including clinic preparation, verifying patient identification, managing check-in and check-out processes, posting charges, handling cash transactions, and scheduling patient appointments.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, manage message distribution, coordinate ancillary service scheduling and preparation, and process patient referrals.
- Prepare for clinic visits by reviewing next day patients and completing next day preparation activities, and enter pre-visit orders and prepare new patient charts.
- Manage medical records, including picking up X-rays, office charts, and other documentation; file history sheets and reports; return medical records and attach HIPAA/Medicare documents to encounter forms.
- Check-in patients, verify demographic data, edit Maestro Care as needed, identify the correct account, educate patients on required forms, and collect co-pays and balances.
- Prepare encounter forms, investigate missing forms, audit for completeness, and batch encounter forms or charge postings in Maestro Care.
- Schedule tests and procedures and distribute ancillary service requisitions.
- Explain billing policies to patients and determine cash collection amounts based on insurance plans.
- Check-out patients by scheduling return appointments and ensuring proper physician associations when scheduling tests and procedures.
- Answer电话, take and deliver messages to physicians, nurses, and others; report and disseminate medical information accurately and timely per practice standards.
What you will need:
Education
- Knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally acquired through high school education.
Experience
- Minimum of one year of work experience in directly communicating and providing service to patients or the public; preferably in a healthcare-related field. Experience coordinating multiple tasks or activities.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Basic PC and data entry skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and telephone etiquette.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work, provide instructions, interact tactfully with customers, and maintain effective relationships.
- Ability to apply departmental policies related to verifying patient information, collecting payments, and maintaining records and forms.
