Patient Revenue Management Organization

Pursue your passion for caring with the Patient Revenue Management Organization, which is the fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization that supports the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions for Duke Health.

Responsibilities

Performs specialized or advanced health information activities necessary to organize, maintain, and use electronic patient health records. Responsibilities vary by service unit within Health Information Management and include:

  • HIPAA-compliant screening of incoming requests for protected health information, distribution of medical records, deficiency management, duplicate pairs resolution, deceased flag management, management of calls for medical record numbers, and compliance with federal and state regulatory and accrediting body requirements for health record content and timely completion.
  • Document management to capture health records in an electronic format and ensure integrity of the Clinical Data Repository (CDR) with knowledge of Hyland OnBase, Solarity, and Maestro Care related to scanned document archival. Includes troubleshooting, training/upskilling customers, audits, data analysis, reporting to leadership, and resolving end-user concerns.
  • Managing failed faxes: timely transmission of information, monitoring and resolving fax transmission failures, reporting daily metrics for fax transmission and failure, submitting and responding to Service Desk tickets related to failed fax transmissions, and coordinating Maestro Care database updates to prevent future errors.
  • Release of Information: final review of authorization requests and processing simple continuity of care, disability, and insurance requests; research and compilation of findings into summaries for external clinical providers, Social Security Disability, and insurance requests (authorization requirements vary).
  • Patient Identity Management: duplicate medical record number (MRN) merges, assessment of overlays, updating basic demographic information, and escalation of complex issues requiring MRN corrections and related documentation changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Good organizational skills, strong investigative/analytic abilities, attention to detail, and follow-through. Excellent verbal and written communication to problem-solve, build working relationships, and assist system users. Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, set priorities, and maintain confidentiality. Ability to stay calm and efficient in high-pressure situations. Intermediate knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is highly recommended. Proficiency with Windows-based software and familiarity with IT hardware and software in local and wide-area networks.

Education

High school or GED diploma required.

Experience

4 years of experience in health information management, document management, or a healthcare-related field required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, IT, or related field can substitute for 2 years of experience. An Associate Degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) is preferred.
