Cardiac Sonographer

The facility features 204 inpatient beds and offers comprehensive services including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.

Position Details

Position: Cardiac Sonographer
Location: Duke Raleigh Hospital, a Campus of Duke University Hospital

*** This position offers a $10,000 commitment bonus and relocation assistance for those moving over 50 miles.***

Work Schedule

40 hours/week with weekend and on-call rotation requirements. Shifts are from 06:30 to 17:00, consisting of 10-hour shifts.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform daily clinical operations of echocardiography, including routine and emergency echocardiograms, preliminary interpretation, and coverage across all sites and shifts.
  • Operate and maintain echocardiography equipment, ensuring optimal diagnostic recordings and proper functioning.
  • Analyze patient medical records to gather necessary information for diagnostic procedures.
  • Prepare preliminary reports for cardiologist review, including comparison with previous studies.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and maintain accurate logs and records.
  • Instruct students, nurses, and health personnel as needed and attend departmental meetings and conferences for ongoing education.
  • Levels of Practice Level I

    Performs routine echocardiograms, operates equipment, and maintains quality standards.

    Level II

    Performs advanced cardiac ultrasound services, assists with complex procedures, and acts as a resource for staff and fellows.

    Level III

    Conducts advanced procedures like 3D imaging and stress echocardiography, provides expert guidance, and ensures compliance with accreditation standards.

    Educational and Supervisory Roles

    Participates in clinical education, research, and acts as a Lead Clinical Instructor. Supervises staff and supports departmental operations.

    Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Technology Program preferred.
    • Certifications:

      ARDMS/CCI in Echocardiography, BLS required.
    • Experience varies by level, from none to a minimum of 2-4 years in the specialty.
