MUST

• 3-5 years of experience in accounting/finance
• 1 year of mortgage loan accounting experience
• Strong experience doing the investment reporting for mortgage loan
• Comes from either financial services/banking/insurance
• Background mortgage loan servicing/reporting/investment accounting for mortgage loans
• Knowledge of mortgage loan investment accounting
• Experience with asset reporting
• bachelors in finance or accounting

Our client, a fast growing and exciting insurance organization is seeking a Mortgage Loan Accountant to join their team as a permanent employee in Durham, NC. In this role, you will support the ongoing accounting, reporting, and system implementation project that is currently taking place. You will support a growing loan portfolio totaling approximately $2B in assets.

• Record, monitor, and reconcile the purchase and ongoing activity of mortgage loans acquired by the company
• Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting and investment reporting for mortgage loan assets
• Support asset-level reporting, including balances, yields, amortization, and performance metrics
• Partner with internal teams to ensure accurate mortgage loan servicing data is reflected in accounting and reporting systems
• Play a key role in the implementation and optimization of a new mortgage loan system (MLX) within Clearwater, including data validation, testing, and issue resolution
• Review and validate data feeds between loan servicing platforms and Clearwater to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Assist with month-end close processes related to mortgage loan investments
• Analyze variances and investigate discrepancies related to mortgage loan activity and reporting
• Collaborate with finance, accounting, and investment teams to support audits, controls, and reporting requirements
• Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and relevant regulatory or reporting standards

This role is best suited for a finance or accounting professional with hands-on mortgage loan accounting experience who is comfortable working in a stable, long-term position and contributing to both day-to-day operations and system implementation initiatives.
