Boundless Science is a Durham-based company focused on innovation in the cardiopulmonary space developing medical devices that will change the practice of medicine. Positive, energetic, and fun attitude required.
We are seeking a senior engineer with strong technical skills to develop a novel oxygenator for cardiopulmonary support. The Senior R&D engineer will be responsible for system integration and individual components of the oxygenator, as well as supporting testing in animals and human clinical trials.
Job ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include:
Coordinate design development and test plan; build prototypes and text fixtures to run different experiments in a wet lab environment.
Manage projects and individual tasks by collaborating with other engineers to ensure timely completion of prototype assembly and testing.
Work within the medical device quality management system to ensure completion of all appropriate documentation under quality systems (e.g. requirement specifications, risk analysis, test protocols and reports).
Write and execute test protocols based on design requirements
Write test reports, summarize results and report on findings through documents or presentations to the team.
Identify deficiencies in the device’s performance and assist to modify the device design, or requirement specifications as necessary.
Generate ideas and contribute to brainstorming sessions to solve device design challenges.
Coordinate and manage vendor relationships to deliver timely prototype components.
Various other tasks as assigned to support testing and clinical trial readiness.
5-10 years (or more) experience in a technical field where skills such as problem solving, engineering, product development have been honed and utilized.
Experience in device research and development. (Bonus: blood oxygenation, pulmonary support, or extracorporeal systems experience).
Technical background in engineering or life sciences, with demonstrated skills in prototyping and device iteration (Bonus: Solidworks experience).
Expertise in product development processes, translating clinical needs into technology solutions, and improving device safety and efficacy.
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify technological and clinical challenges and propose innovative design solutions and experiments independently and within a team.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and document development progress.
Desire to learn and be challenged on a daily basis with new problems to solve.
Teamwork and collaboration capabilities for integrating input from R&D, clinical, and cross-functional staff to drive product success.
Attention to detail resulting in thorough test protocol and report documentation and checklist development to deliver high quality medical devices for animal and human use.
Commitment to improving patient outcomes and awareness of the clinical context of device use and user needs.
Desire to have fun and work in a start-up environment.
