- Overseeing all aspects of the Department’s development review responsibilities related to transportation.
- Reviewing and coordinating all development related submittals for conformance with applicable City, State, and Federal Standards, Plans and Policies related to Transportation.
- Reviewing project plans and designs, reviewing studies and analyses, overseeing personnel, responding to inquiries and requests, and managing forms and reports for projects.
- Providing testimony at public hearings before City Council, Planning Commission, and the Board of Adjustment.
- Plan and drawing reviews; processing applications; site inspections; responding to customer questions; maintaining records; verifying permits; and/or performing related duties.
- Managing personnel and ensuring that plans are reviewed accurately within established deadlines.
- Reviewing plans, drawings and permit applications for conformance with applicable regulations and adopted plans.
- Coordinating with other departments, NCDOT, developers, and citizens to resolve conflicts and issues.
- Reviewing traffic impact analyses to determine required mitigation for developments.
- Responding to customer questions.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field.
- Five years of related engineering and/or project management experience.
- Two years of supervisory experience (such as a team lead, supervisor, manager, etc.).
- North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) Registration (or if registered in another state, ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record acquired within a time frame established by the City.
- Knowledge of transportation engineering principles and practices, bicycle/pedestrian transportation, complete streets, transportation planning, urban design, traffic safety, and construction.
- Knowledge of land development regulations or similar previous work experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
