Engineering Technologist II (Contract, Durham, NC)
SalaryBase pay range: $31.13/hr - $36.13/hr
DescriptionPrimary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for an Engineering Technologist II with our large power and utilities client in Durham, NC. This is a 24‑month contract with a potential for extension. This is a hybrid position – 3 days a week in office.
Pay: $31.13 – $36.13/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no benefits. ACA‑compliant supplemental package available for enrollment.
Duties Include- Daily review of Maximo Work Management System for new work orders and changes to existing customer‑facing work orders.
- Call/email/text customers in response to questions and concerns no later than next business day.
- Arrange on‑site meetings with customers to take field notes and design sketches for new electric service to residential/commercial buildings (includes Primary and Secondary Voltage equipment design) to meet customer needs and standards.
- Estimate costs for customers where applicable prior to service.
- Design work in Design Lite tool.
- Provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and lead oversight of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision.
- Develop advanced skills and work with greater independence.
- Provide guidance in identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
- Ensure accomplishment of business goals through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
- Conduct engineering and related studies.
- Strive to continually improve technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
- Develop positive working relationships to coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
- Once work is scheduled, ensure any construction issues are resolved up to the meter being set.
- No electrical hands‑on work required, but PPE (hard hat, EH safety shoes, leather gloves, traffic vest) required. Safety is part of the job.
- 40 hrs/week is the norm. In case of major storm, may be given opportunity to work in scout/damage‑assessor role with overtime.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) or 4 years experience with an Associate Degree, or 6–10 years equivalent experience with no degree.
- Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio‑economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Good written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Understanding of basic principles of project management.
