The Balthrop Cassidy Fellowship is designed for emerging leaders who are ready to make a powerful difference in campus culture. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Students, you will design innovative programs, build strong campus partnerships, and champion efforts that promote healthy relationships across the Duke student community.

What You'll Do:
Programming - 50%
  • Develop and deliver orientation curriculum focused on building and sustaining healthy relationships, in partnership with New Student & Family Programs.
  • Collaborate with Gender Violence Education & Outreach to design and deliver training on preventing sexual misconduct using a healthy relationships lens.
  • Partner with Housing & Residence Life to develop relationship health programming across campus.
  • Assess program outcomes, track engagement trends, and use data to enhance future initiatives.
Departmental & Constituent Services - 20%
  • Meet regularly with individual students and student group leaders to gather feedback and report insights to Student Affairs.
  • Build deep expertise in Duke's social culture around relationship health and share insights across departments.
  • Support Dean of Students initiatives such as Shmoody, Constructive Dialogue Institute, and Alive @ 5 at BC Plaza.
  • Contribute to division-wide goals related to belonging, wellbeing, and relationship health.
Community Building - 25%
  • Meet with students to better understand experiences with relationship health and how these reflect broader social norms at Duke.
  • Identify innovative opportunities for student involvement in healthy relationship efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison to departments advancing peer education goals, including DuWell, Women's Center, Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity, and the Office of Undergraduate Education.
Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience working in a university setting (RA, work‑study, graduate assistant, teaching assistant, etc.). Preference for recent Duke graduates with near‑peer connection to undergraduates.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
  • Strong passion for promoting healthy relationships among college‑aged populations.
  • Knowledge of Duke's campus culture and student life.
  • Experience coordinating events and initiatives across multiple campus partners.
  • Adaptability to shifting student needs and institutional priorities.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while engaging in sensitive conversations around consent and relationship health.
  • Problem‑solving resilience and creativity.
  • Demonstrated success collaborating across diverse groups‑students, staff, faculty, administrators.
  • Proven leadership and reliability in completing responsibilities.
  • Ability to turn high‑level concepts into actionable steps with strong follow‑through and attention to detail.
