The NCCU Department of Art and Design has an immediate need for adjunct faculty in Graphic Design & Innovation. The ideal candidates will have a master’s degree, professional experience, and a passion for teaching. Adjunct professors will prepare students for careers in the field through in‑person lecture or studio‑based learning, critiques, and exposure to traditional and cutting‑edge creative approaches. In the Spring 2026 semester, the selected adjunct(s) will teach one or both of the courses below, each class meeting twice a week:
- ART 3060 – Design History (3 credits): A comprehensive introduction to the evolution of visual communication from early symbolic systems and the origins of writing, to modern typography, animation, motion design, and interactive digital media. The course emphasizes global perspectives, artistic movements, design innovation, and the relationship between culture, technology, and society.
- ARTV 3150 – Computer Graphics II:
Time and Sequence (3 credits): A studio‑intensive course focused on time‑based media, narrative development, and visual storytelling. Students work with Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects to explore video editing, motion graphics, compositing, sequencing, and concept development. Six studio hours weekly.
- Teach assigned courses in graphic design and related subjects.
- Develop and deliver lecture and studio sessions, including critiques and project reviews.
- Maintain student attendance, grading, and feedback in a timely manner.
- Create and update course materials, syllabi, and assignments.
- Stay current with industry developments and incorporate contemporary practices into instruction.
- Documented professional experience in graphic design, motion media, digital storytelling, or related creative industries.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- Demonstrated experience teaching, mentoring, or facilitating design learning, with strong communication and organizational skills.
- A strong creative portfolio that demonstrates conceptual depth, aesthetic refinement, and technical skill across a range of projects.
Strong letters of reference will validate the candidate’s teaching excellence and ability to inspire students.
Minimum Education / ExperienceThe ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree in the field.
