The University College offers a comprehensive array of academic support services geared towards facilitating the smooth transition of first‑ and second‑year students into the university environment. Through Academic Advising, Academic Success Coaching, Tutoring, Supplemental Learning, and a host of other resources, we aim to empower students to navigate their academic journey successfully. Our primary objective is to guide students towards timely graduation within four years while nurturing their holistic development throughout their college experience.
PrimaryPurpose of Position
The Senior Academic Advisor provides academic advisement to NCCU’s University College constituents (first‑year students, sophomores, and transfer students) through one‑on‑one meetings, workshops, and presentations regarding majors, degree requirements, academic progress, and selection of courses for future semesters. This position assesses individual student situations, creates, implements, and monitors students’ academic progression, retention, and holistic development with the support of internal and external organizations and resources that meet student needs.

- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission and structure of NCCU programs and curricula.
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field and three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in higher education, including excellent advising experience, are preferred.

- Conduct one‑on‑one and small group advising sessions with University College students to discuss majors, degree requirements, academic progress, and course selection; review student progression in coursework; provide personalized guidance and support; facilitate access to tutoring, supplemental instruction, and academic success workshops; and provide intervention to high‑risk students based on early alert mechanisms.
- Provide supportive leadership within the advising unit, coordinating advising initiatives, developing programming, facilitating new employee training, conducting academic appeal reviews, and supporting various endeavors within University College.
- Utilize advising technology tools to streamline advising processes, maintain student records, and enhance communication with students; implement proactive retention strategies to monitor and support students’ academic progression and holistic development.
- Represent University College on campus committees, collaborate with campus partners, and serve on various committees to ensure the unit’s interests are advocated for and engaged with the broader university community.
