The Counseling Center is a department within the Division of Student Affairs at North Carolina Central University. Its primary mission is to support the academic and student development missions of NCU and the Division of Student Affairs by providing a comprehensive program of services that assist in the cultural, social, moral, personal, emotional, and intellectual development of a diverse student population.
The Center is committed to the right of students to develop to their optimal potential and actively advocates a living/learning environment that facilitates growth of the whole person.
Position will provide individual and group counseling for a variety of personal, social, educational and vocational concerns; offer psycho educational workshops on study skills, assertiveness training, stress management, and more; conduct client assessment of personal and vocational characteristics to assist decision‑making and problem‑solving; develop and present outreach programs; provide crisis intervention and management, including on‑call rotation; provide student advocacy, referrals to community agencies and university sections;
provide consultations to faculty and staff; fulfill administrative duties, including serving on committees; provide some supervision and training of master’s level graduate practicum students and interns; participate in professional development; and perform related duties as assigned.
- Advanced experience and knowledge of individual and group counseling methods and procedures; demonstrated knowledge of principles of program development, consultation, outreach, and crisis intervention.
