KIPP Durham Middle School Substitute

KIPP Durham Middle School is refounding to improve student achievement. The Permanent Substitute will assist during normal hours, Saturday school, and summer academy to support our mission of equity and excellence.

• Provide instruction in pre‑planned curriculum and deliver lessons at a high level of fidelity.
• Learn student data and individual needs, including IEPs, multislingual plans, and other individualized plans.
• Use assessment data (i‑Ready, IA, EOG, DIBELS, exit tickets, quizzes) to drive instruction, pivot when necessary, and create individualized learning plans.
• Set clear expectations, hold students accountable, and demonstrate a commitment to personal responsibility.
• Maintain an accurate gradebook, keep records, and complete data tracking tasks to support instruction.
• Participate in daily school routines (arrival, advisory, lunch, hallway transitions) and build a joyful classroom culture.
• Collaborate with leaders and coaches to identify strengths and growth areas for professional development.
• Attend Teacher Work Days, Regional Data Days, and professional development meetings for continuous growth.

• A deep commitment to the mission of KIPP NC and an unwavering belief in the potential of all our students.
• 3+ years of experience in K‑12 as a substitute teacher, paraprofessional, teacher assistant or similar role; high‑performing public charter school experience serving underserved students highly preferred.
• Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of economically marginalized students.
• An Associate’s degree OR 48+ hours of college credit.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

• Permanent Substitute salary: $37,000 (Associate) or $39,000 (Bachelor) plus a $4,000 salary boost supplement.
• Full‑time, salaried role with medical, dental, vision, and 403(b) with an employer match.
• 5 days of PTO and 6 days of sick leave annually.
• 26 holidays, including Fall Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
