Position Overview

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) seeks a dynamic scholar‑practitioner at the Assistant Professor level for a tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Public Administration. The successful candidate will be a member of the core faculty of the NASPAA‑accredited MPA Program and will play a crucial role in advancing our mission and preparing leaders for public service. This role is integral to NCCU’s legacy as a premier Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach core and elective courses in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Engage in active research and pursue external funding opportunities.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and mentorship and advising of students.
  • Supervise internships, theses, and certifications.
  • Participate in community service initiatives, relationship and capacity building, and outreach.
  • Assume additional leadership roles in the department commensurate with rank.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Public Administration or a related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates must receive the degree to be eligible).
  • Demonstrated achievement in teaching and research consistent with the rank of assistant professor under NCCU’s Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure criteria.
  • Ability to teach core public administration courses and electives.
  • Experience or capability in teaching both face‑to‑face and online courses.
  • Active research agenda with a record of scholarly publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Potential to secure external funding through grants, contracts, or other sources.
  • Commitment to mentoring and advising students, including supervision of internships and theses.
  • Evidence of professional development, such as presenting papers at professional meetings and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development and program assessment activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to public service and community engagement.
  • Interest in accreditation processes, including assessment and NASPAA standards.
Minimum Education /Experience

Ph.D. in Public Administration or a related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates must receive the degree to be eligible).
