About Duke Regional Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. With 388 beds it is the second largest of Duke Health's four hospitals and offers a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services, including orthopedics, weight-loss surgery, women's services, and heart and vascular services.

Responsibilities
  • Hospitalist physicians in the Hospital Medicine Department provide clinical care for patients admitted at Duke University Health System hospitals, support surgical and specialty services through consultative general internal medicine practice, and teach staff, graduate medical trainees, and medical students on inpatient educational rotations.
  • Engage in direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of professional responsibility within the Department.
  • Perform assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, ongoing treatment and clinical management, referrals for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and readiness/discharge planning for inpatients.
  • Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, friends, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to foster an open, visitor-friendly environment.
  • Maintain extensive and ongoing communication with community primary care physicians who routinely manage the care of patients in the hospital.
  • Provide day-to-day patient contact, rounding, and care management that actively includes professional input from all members of the patient care team.
  • Complete all clinical and professional records and documentation accurately and timely to comply with local, state, and federal regulatory, licensure, and accreditation requirements.
  • Contribute to creating a positive work culture within cross-departmental teams and align this work with Hospital Medicine initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

  • Technical:
    Clinical training and skills as mandated by the American Board of Internal Medicine for General Internal Medicine physicians.
  • Non-Technical:
    Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others; strong written and oral communication skills; for clinician educators, strong clinical teaching skills.
