Duke University Medical Center Department of Surgery is seeking a nationally recognized leader to serve as Chief, Division of Surgical Oncology.
This role provides the opportunity to lead and shape one of the largest and most comprehensive academic surgical oncology divisions in the country. The chief will provide strategic leadership across clinical care, research, education, and faculty development, with responsibility for defining and executing the long-term vision of both the division and department. The chief will have significant opportunity to shape faculty recruitment, programmatic investments, and research infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Lead and grow a multidisciplinary division encompassing the sections of Breast, Melanoma, Endocrine, Sarcoma, and Hepatopancreatobiliary/UGI Surgery
- Drive clinical program development and regional and national referral growth aligned with DUHS priorities
- Advance a high-impact, sustainable research enterprise, including clinical trials, translational research, and extramural funding
- Recruit, mentor, and retain faculty, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and academic advancement
- Partner with departmental and institutional leadership to strengthen education, innovation, and multidisciplinary cancer care
The Division currently includes 25 faculty members with plans to recruit additional faculty members based on significant market growth projections.
Qualifications- Board certified in general surgery
- Fellowship training in surgical oncology strongly preferred
- Established national reputation as an academic clinician-scientist with a strong history of research funding
