The Position

A superintendent manages and oversees the day‑to‑day operations of a construction project. On‑site, they ensure that construction activities are carried out efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. Superintendents play a critical role in coordinating tasks, managing subcontractors and laborers, and guaranteeing smooth project progress.

This is a full‑time, permanent role that may alternate between our HQ office in Durham, NC, and client locations.

Successful candidate may be hired level I, II, III, or Senior based on education plus years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the construction process in a specific area or scope, planning, organizing, and coordinating all activities necessary to complete the project on time and within budget.
  • Oversee the work of subcontractors, laborers, and other personnel on‑site, ensuring work is performed correctly and efficiently.
  • Create and manage schedules for construction activities within the designated area or scope, ensuring timely progress and proper sequencing of tasks.
  • Maintain high‑quality construction standards through inspections, review of workmanship, and ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct safety meetings, and ensure all workers adhere to safety regulations.
  • Handle conflicts—whether personnel, schedules, or technical matters—to keep the project running smoothly.
  • Serve as a communication hub between project managers, architects, subcontractors, and workers, relaying information about progress, changes, and challenges.
  • Coordinate delivery and use of construction materials, tools, and equipment within a specific area or scope to ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of daily activities, including work completed, issues encountered, and changes made to original plans.
  • Monitor costs related to responsibilities and work to ensure the project stays within budget.
  • Understand and help execute the project schedule and work plan.
  • Understand subcontractor scopes, assist in the buyout process, and oversee day‑to‑day activities.
  • Review submittals from the general contractor and coordinate with engineering.
  • Understand quality control, document control, and communication plans.
  • Provide project updates consistently to various stakeholders.
  • Enforce contracts with contractors and consultants.
  • Monitor progress and adjust as needed.
  • Measure task performance to identify improvement areas.
  • Collaborate and build effective relationships with the client’s project team, owners, final users, design team, contractors, and local jurisdictional personnel.
  • Initial focus on a key scope associated with a project is identified and nurtured to mastery (e.g., CSA, MEP, Process).
  • Secondary focus on additional project scopes identified and nurtured to mastery (e.g., CSA, MEP, Process).
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a fast‑paced environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or technical field preferred, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience for a Superintendent I
  • 8+ years of experience for a Superintendent II
  • 10+ years of experience for a Superintendent III
  • 15+ years of experience for a Senior Superintendent
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Organizational skills, oral and written communication, and team attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and resourcefulness in managing stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical skills and proven ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, summarize, and present data concisely.
