The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Administrative Specialist II is to function as the confidential administrative assistant for the Director of Institutions Programs and Services. The position will be required to have extensive knowledge of Programs and Services to make appropriate decisions within procedural guidelines. The position will be responsible for high level administrative duties and complex tasks for Programs and Services at the Division level.

Will require use of program information systems in order to communicate and process information, and apply this knowledge in performance of administrative tasks. Will explain and interpret information to clients/customers and staff; and will compile, assimilate and organize both printed and electronic information. Will apply knowledge of data collection, storage, organization, manipulation and/or analysis of data to meet organizational needs. Will utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems).

Will be required to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; and use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions. Must clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups and present ideas clearly and effectively in written form. Will be required to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience and show ability to use correct grammar, sentence organization, and structure.
