Position Overview

Join our team at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). NCCU is a historically Black university located in Durham, NC. This opportunity supports the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team with administrative and budget responsibilities, documentation, data management, purchasing, and general administrative duties.

Function of Organizational Unit

As a critical part of the NCCU leadership team, EHS promotes health and safety for students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus. EHS works with university, county and state agencies to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Environmental Quality) through technical assistance, education and policy making.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position provides administrative support to a multi-disciplinary safety team, focusing on customer service. Major duties include departmental correspondence, maintaining training and other databases, report writing, minute taking and distribution, data collection and analysis, data verification and summarization, purchasing and budget support, and providing overall administrative structure for the Department.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience with financial budgets including purchasing, reconciliation, etc.
  • Experience adjusting language or terminology to meet audience needs
  • Experience designing projects and working with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Professional-level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
  • Experience adapting to change and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience following up on assignments with minimal supervision
  • Substantive knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods, and practices
  • Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge in administrative tasks
  • Experience providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to compile, assimilate, and organize both printed and electronic information
  • Experience applying knowledge of data collection, storage, organization, manipulation, and analysis
  • Demonstrated judgment, discretion, and negotiation skills in problem situations

Minimum Education /Experience

High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Prefer at least an Associate's degree, with a focus in business, accounting, or management.
