Job Purpose or Objective(s):The Deputy Chief of Police will oversee daily law enforcement operations, ensure compliance with tribal, state, and federal laws, and promote public safety within the Nation’s jurisdiction. The role involves strategic planning, personnel management, community engagement, and coordination with other law enforcement agencies to uphold the security and well-being of tribal members, employees, and visitors. You will report to the Chief of Police.
PrimaryTasks:
- Serves as second in command to the Chief of Police and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Choctaw Nation Light horse Police Department.
- Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating law enforcement programs for CNLP to align with the policies and goals of the Choctaw Nation. Continuously assess department performance and effectiveness, identifying and addressing deficiencies through policy updates and program improvements.
- Oversee the development, presentation, and management of the department’s annual budget, ensuring financial accountability and alignment with operational goals.
- Engage with stakeholders, including elected officials, community leaders, and law enforcement agencies, to foster collaboration and enhance public safety efforts.
- Oversee internal operations and communications, ensuring clear policies, procedures, and directives while guiding and instructing employees on job responsibilities.
- Interpret statistical reports and direct initiatives to reduce crime rates and traffic accidents. Preparing reports regarding department activities and various other reports as appropriate.
- Manages special investigations and interagency cooperation, assigning officers based on expertise and working with municipal, county, federal, and tribal law enforcement.
- Instruct employees on specific tasks and job techniques, ensuring requests are completed as stated.
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field and at least six (6) years of law enforcement experience, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory or command staff role. OR
- Ten (10) years of law enforcement or related experience in lieu of a degree, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory or command staff role.
- Possess a valid State driver’s license.
- CLEET certified or ability to become CLEET certified within 1 year of hire
- Able to qualify yearly with department firearms
- Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress and conflict situations.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make logical decisions.
