Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, you will officiate adult volleyball games for league and/or tournament play
. Adult Volleyball Referees support the City’s recreation programs by helping ensure games are conducted in a fair, organized, and professional manner while providing a positive experience for participants and spectators. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently or alongside other officials during assigned matches.

You’ll Do in This Role- Officiate adult volleyball games for league and/or tournament play in accordance with established rules and officiating techniques.
- Apply volleyball rules consistently and exercise sound judgment while managing assigned games and matches.
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with players, spectators, and Parks and Recreation staff.
- Work independently or alongside other officials during assigned volleyball games and matches.
- Manage game flow and respond appropriately to interpersonal conflicts that may arise during play.
- Operate and handle sports equipment related to adult volleyball programs.
- Maintain physical readiness to move with the game, including periods of running, standing, and other moderate physical activity.
- Maintain mental focus and professionalism in environments with moderate pressure and frequent public interaction.
- Support the overall operations of City of Durango Parks and Recreation volleyball programs by following department procedures and expectations.
- Knowledge of the specific sport being officiated (volleyball).
- Previous volleyball officiating experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with staff and the public.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Are comfortable making decisions and managing interpersonal situations during games.
- Can adapt to varying work schedules, including evenings and weekends.
- Are able to work in indoor and outdoor recreational facilities and variable environmental conditions.
- Remain calm and focused during periods of moderate physical exertion and mental pressure.
