Durango School District is accepting applications for a Plumbing Project Lead/Master Plumber. Position includes CO PERA retirement, paid time off, and full benefits. Position starts October 15, 2025.

In Colorado, a Licensed Master Plumbers duty is to, supervise, and perform plumbing work according to Colorado state and local codes. Master Plumbers carry the highest level of plumbing licensure and are responsible for overseeing plumbing installations, repairs, inspections, and ensuring code compliance on commercial, or industrial projects. In addition to project oversights a Licensed Master Plumber will secure all state and local permits pertaining to school district projects.
Colorado Master Plumbers must follow the Colorado Plumbing Code, which is based on the International Plumbing Code (IPC) with state amendments
1. Supervision and Leadership
* Supervise facility maintenance engineers on all district plumbing project job sites.
* Provide technical guidance and mentoring.
* Ensure all work complies with plumbing codes and regulations.
* Plan and oversee the layout and installation of plumbing systems.
2. Design and Planning
* Review building plans and blueprints to determine materials, time, and labor requirements.
* Design plumbing systems for new construction or renovation projects.
* Coordinate with engineers, architects, general contractors, and local authorities.
3. Installation of Plumbing Systems
* Install piping systems for water supply, drainage, venting, gas, and hydronic heating.
* Install fixtures such as sinks, toilets, water heaters, boilers, and backflow prevention devices.
* Ensure proper pipe sizing and materials according to job specifications and codes.
4. Inspection and Code Compliance
* Conduct inspections of plumbing systems to ensure they meet Colorado Plumbing Code and local ordinances.
* Pull required permits and ensure that inspections are scheduled and passed.
* Correct deficiencies noted in plumbing inspections or plan reviews.
5. Maintenance and Repair
* Diagnose and repair plumbing issues in commercial and institutional settings.
* Perform routine maintenance and upgrades to plumbing systems and equipment.
6. Licensing and Legal Compliance
* Maintain current licensure through continuing education and renewal with the Colorado State Plumbing Board.
* Ensure all work performed under their license meets legal and safety requirements.
* Handle documentation and reporting related to permits, work orders, and code compliance.
7. Estimating and Project Management
* Prepare cost estimates, material lists, and bids for plumbing projects.
* Manage job site timelines, subcontractors, and budgets.
* Communicate with clients and stakeholders throughout the project.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or GED
Training and certification as a Master Plumber
EXPERIENCE:
Three years experience as a Master Plumber preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
Master Plumbers License for the state of Colorado
Ability to transport oneself to all properties owned by the Durango School District and to necessary locations to secure parts as needed.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of plumbing repair, maintenance, and installation techniques.
Knowledge of plumbing codes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills.
Strong decision making, analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to promote and follow Board and District policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures.
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively in a team setting. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals. Operating knowledge of general plumbing repair and maintenance equipment and efficient use of repair parts and tools.
