Position: Medical Assistant (S0383)

Overview

We are seeking a Medical Assistant who will provide clinical and administrative support to medical and/or psychiatric providers and their patients in an outpatient setting. The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for preparing for patient visits, performing assigned clinical tasks, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, performing point of care testing, assisting in minor procedures, fielding patient phone calls, obtaining prior authorizations, and maintaining patient care supplies.

The MA works with-in an integrated, multi-disciplinary team and may be assigned to work with primary care providers, psychiatric providers, or both.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for patient visits and perform assigned clinical tasks.
  • Room patients and obtain/document vital signs; perform point-of-care testing.
  • Assist in minor procedures and maintain patient care supplies.
  • Field patient phone calls and obtain prior authorizations as needed.
  • Collaborate with an integrated, multi-disciplinary team; may work with primary care and/or psychiatric providers.
  • Document patient information and communicate with patients and providers as needed.
Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will maintain a High School Diploma/GED and at least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a clinical support position in a medical or behavioral health setting.

Preferred experience:

3 years as a Medical Assistant and CMA (Certified Medical Assistant).

Salary

Starting pay is $21.50 per hour (Base pay $19.00 + $2.50 Locale Differential) and ranges up to $24.64 per hour, including the locale differential, based on preferred experience and education described above.

Physical Demands

Occasionally lift/move 15 to 50 pounds. Frequent walking, sitting, standing, or kneeling; occasional climbing or balancing and stooping. Ability to sit for longer periods at a computer. Travel between AHS locations. Potential exposure to communicable disease. Moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic classifications, and medications.
  • Schedule and visit prep to anticipate provider and patient needs prior to visit.
  • Room patients and obtain clinical information (medication list, allergies, patient concerns).
  • Accurately measure and record vital signs (BP, HR, RR, height, weight).
  • Communicate with patients (in person and by phone) about medications, reminders, test results, and other questions; document communication in the EHR.
  • Assist in staying on schedule, direct patient flow, and communicate delays to providers and patients/families.
  • Accurately perform and record point-of-care testing (e.g., Urine Drug Screen or A1C).
  • Administer medications and immunizations as instructed by the RN or medical provider.
  • Clean and disinfect exam tables, counters, equipment, and devices per infection control guidelines.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for medications, supplies, tests, or referrals when needed.
  • Assemble equipment and prepare trays for minor procedures.
  • Communicate diagnostic and laboratory results to patients as instructed by the medical provider.
  • Provide patient education as instructed by the RN or medical provider.
  • Facilitate telehealth visits as applicable.
Additional Eligibility Requirements

Annual flu immunization, annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, and BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
