SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Support Services, the Parent/Guardian School Liaison serves as a vital link between school staff, families, and the community. The role focuses on building strong partnerships to support student success in areas such as attendance, academics, behavior, and health. This position provides outreach and guidance to ensure that all families, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, are effectively connected to school and community resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Feeder Pattern Support:
Act as the primary liaison for an assigned cohort of elementary and middle schools to provide seamless advocacy as students progress through the district.
* Liaison & Partnership Building:
Serve as a primary point of contact between staff, parents/guardians, and the community to coordinate programs and services that meet student needs.
* Family Engagement & Events:
Collaborate with school principals and counselors to plan and host family nights tailored to the specific needs of the school community.
* District-Wide Advocacy:
Attend and support the Executive Director with the Spanish Language Superintendent Advisory Committee, the Inclusive Excellence Guiding Coalition, and other district-wide councils that advocate for students and families.
* Student Support Meetings:
Actively participate in and support IEP meetings, school attendance teams, and Child Study meetings to facilitate problem-solving and goal-setting.
* Parent Group
Collaboration:
Establish and maintain strong connections with school-based parent groups, including Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) and School Accountability Committees (SACs).
* Outreach & Problem Solving:
Facilitate conversations between families and the school regarding concerns in attendance, academics, or health, and assist in developing strategies for student growth.
* Community Resource Coordination:
Identify family needs and refer them to appropriate school or community services, establishing partnerships with local agencies to enhance support.
* Communication:
Compose and distribute correspondence, initiate telephone calls, and conduct home visits to build partnerships between the school and the home.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
* Communication:
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English using tact, patience, and courtesy.
* Interpersonal
Skills:
Proven ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
* Technical Proficiency:
Proficiency in modern office practices and the operation of computers and assigned software.
* Problem-Solving:
Knowledge of basic interviewing and advisement techniques to identify and address family needs.
* Organizational
Skills:
Ability to maintain regular attendance and manage record-keeping and filing techniques effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
* Experience:
Typically requires two years of experience working with students or families in a social services or educational environment.
* Licensure:
Must possess the ability to travel within the county and to various school locations to perform essential duties.
