Job Overview:
Colorado Timberline Academy is a small, outdoor-focused boarding school. Our teachers serve as academic leaders, outdoor educators, and residential supervisors. Each faculty member participates in three multi-day outdoor trips per year, leads weekday outdoor pursuits, and contributes to the boarding community. This full-time, residential position includes room and board, an annual ski pass, salary, and full benefits.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Sciences Teacherto join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Social Studies, Political Science or other social sciences, a passion for outdoor education, and a commitment to community life.
Responsibilities- Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered lesson plans that follow school curriculum guidelines.
- Provide instruction primarily in Social Sciences, with flexibility to teach other electives as needed.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student participation and academic growth.
- Assess student progress through varied and meaningful assessments.
- Offer academic support through individualized instruction, mentoring, and advising.
- Participate actively in the residential life program, including supervision duties and community-building activities.
- Lead and supervise outdoor education activities and multi-day trips including backpacking and skiing, as well as the opportunity to engage in a variety of other outdoor sports and extracurricular classes.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student development and school programming.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Humanities, or a related field (required).
- Familiarity with instructional design, learning technologies, and differentiated instruction.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational or outdoor setting preferred.
- Ability to safely lead and participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including but not limited to:
- Backpacking (multi-day trips with full pack load)
- Downhill Skiing
- The opportunity to participate in: mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, snow shoeing and disc golf.
- Ability to navigate variable mountain terrain and weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and sustain physical activity for extended periods.
- Comfort with extended travel and overnights in backcountry settings.
- Current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification (preferred or willing to obtain).
- Salary: Starting at $28,000/year
