Pay rate: $15/hr

Reports to: Director of Transportation

To assist in providing safe transportation of students.

• Maintains good student conduct while on the bus with driver’s support
• Assists students as they enter and exit the school bus for curb-to-curb service as needed
• Keeps written records of inappropriate student behavior and any other records as required by Dunlap Community #323 School District guidelines
• Responsible for securing/un-securing wheelchairs while the driver operates the lift, using tie‑downs, belts, safety restraints, and any other related supportive equipment needed for transporting students
• Assists the driver with the maintenance of a clean bus interior; wiping down the seats with disinfectant, inspecting and securing seatbelts and other safety equipment, putting up the windows, etc. while on duty
• Demonstrates knowledge of assigned bus route for pickup and delivery of students
• Performs other related duties/tasks as assigned

• Attends department in-service meetings and all recertification classes
• Reads and follows instructions; and understands written and oral instructions
• Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include safety practices and procedures

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Job related experience is desired
• Ability to learn special methods and procedures for working with special needs students, to include handling equipment that may be required in transporting special needs students (i.e. walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen equipment, etc.)
• Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
• Ability to acquire CPR and 1st Aid certification
• Experience working with children preferred
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, administrative staff and parents

• Mental Demands: calculating, comparing, evaluation, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying

• Physical Demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 15% walking, and 15% standing. Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps, and securement locks. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear;

stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing and pulling. Moderate lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs or more.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Frequent interaction among unruly children. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. Occasional evening/weekend/summer work.
