Experience in Critical Care is desirable but not essential. It is desirable that you have a post‑basic critical care qualification.
As part of the multidisciplinary team and without supervision, the post holder will have the responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients. In the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse or deputy provide cover to ensure effective operation of the ward.
The Department of Neurosurgery provides exciting pioneering Neurosurgical procedures and care as part of Regional Services for the West of Scotland. Our 12 bed Critical Care Unit provides person‑centred care for critically ill patients from Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Oral Maxillary Facial Surgery. Our Critical Care Unit has a dedicated Clinical Educator who will support you in developing your skills and career.
Duration,Location, and Working Pattern:
- An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our dynamic team within Critical Care Neurosciences/OMFS in the Institute of Neurological Sciences in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- The shift pattern for this post is between Monday to Sunday in a series of day and night shifts
- Please note these posts are fixed‑term for a period of 12 months
- Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients to ensure delivery of a high standard of care
- Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives/carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that appropriate information is shared and patient needs are met
- Work within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the Ward and Division and report outcomes to senior nursing staff to enable monitoring of standards of care
- Supervise/mentor less experienced staff/students who are providing care to patients and act as a source of advice to ensure their educational needs are met
- Organise own workload to ensure that the interests of patients/clients are met
- Responsible for maintaining patient records within agreed standards
- Maintain departmental stock levels, through ordering of stores, ensuring the economic use of all resources
- Develop the role by using evidence‑based practice and continuously improve own knowledge following NMC Revalidation guidelines
- Participate in clinical audit as required
- Carry and respond appropriately to arrest page callouts in the Institute of Neurological Sciences and Spinal Injuries Unit for both adult and paediatric patients
- Registered Nurses on the NMC Register RN1 , RNA
- Relevant clinical experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in job description
